Our group has been running for nearly 13 years, and during that time we haven’t missed a single meeting. The principle is straightforward – each month members submit 6 pictures on a preselected topic, which are individually appraised/constructively criticised by the group. We also explore how, if necessary, our pictures could be improved by some basic manipulation, which usually amounts to simple tweaks such as cropping, cloning and adjusting shadows/highlights.

Originally, we met around the table and viewed the pictures on a projector screen but eventually moved to a high-definition large TV which improved the experience greatly. After the Covid lockdown in 2020 we continued to meet virtually using the 8×8 video conferencing tool (we now use its successor, Jitsi Meet). This has proved so successful that we plan to continue to meet this way.
